TISS hyderabad-campus

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad was established as an Off-Campus in 2011 at the invitation of the erstwhile government of Andhra Pradesh. Since its inception, the campus at Hyderabad has been guided by the mandate of TISS in combining academic excellence with social relevance. The scope of its activities through innovative and interdisciplinary teaching programmes, research studies, publications and collaborations with the Central and State governments as also multilateral institutions and international universities is attentive in equal measure to local knowledges and needs as well as developments at the national and global levels.

Vision

To create an institution of excellence in knowledge building and sharing that explores fresh ground in defining social sciences and its relevance in strengthening people's knowledge, their right to education and ecologically sustainable livelihoods in order to deepen democracy and citizenship.

Mission

The Off-Campus of TISS at Hyderabad has been working towards its vision by:

  • Creating an institution of excellence in higher education in social sciences that offers a high-quality learning environment
  • Building new knowledge that is theoretically grounded, and demonstrating innovative programmes
  • Strengthening research and practice skills in planning, policy-making and programme management at all levels of governance structures

  • TISS, Hyderabad has been providing high-quality social science education through MA and Ph.D. programmes
  • The pedagogy involved in the teaching programmes is a rigorous blend of theoretical perspectives and experiential learning
  • TISS Hyderabad has been consistently preparing reflective human service professionals and practitioners to work with Governments, International Organizations, NGOs and Corporate Social Initiatives and has an impressive student placement record
  • The faculty is drawn from prestigious national and international institutions, and include Rhodes, Fell Fund (Oxford), Fulbright, Commonwealth and Chevening scholars
  • The Hyderabad Off-Campus has taken up wide-ranging research projects commissioned by Multilateral Institutions (World Bank, UNFPA, FAO etc.) International Universities (LSE, Oxford etc.) International Institutions (British Academy), and various State Governments (e.g., Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana) and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
  • The Institute has been involved in advocacy, training and capacity building of State and non-State organisations and personnel across the country
  • International exposure for students has been provided through Student Exchange Programmes (e.g., Erasmus Mundus (Sweden), Sciences Po (France), Edinburgh, Birmingham Univ. (UK), Monash University, Macquarie University (Australia).
