The Center started in collaboration with UNHCR India. TISS and UNHCR are fostering partnership for training, capacity building, research and awareness raising on refugee protection and statelessness issues. Regular teaching of refugee law and statelessness are being conducted. Plans are on to conduct workshops, seminars, conferences and periodic publications on the subject. Refugee and statelessness are pertinent issues in the South Asian region which needs systematic study and policy inputs for protection of the most vulnerable groups.
The center has two field action Projects under it: CHUNAUTI - A Rehabilitation Project for Mentally Challenged Children, which was established in 2012, and TISS Legal Services Clinic, which was established in 2014.
The objective of CHUNAUTI has been to strengthen systems for care and rehabilitation of mentally challenged children so as to ensure that children in MDC Homes are not exploited or abused hence, programmes like developing and implementing care plans, linkages for quality services, capacity of building of a staff, documentation and dissemination and advocacy and networking have been successfully carried out.
