The Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies, TISS is one of the nine partnering institutions along with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, TU Delft, University of Lisbon, Mekerere University, Mekerere University Business School, Mbara University of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, in the EU Erasmus+ sponsored Capacity Building in Sustainability and Environmental Management (CAPSEM) project.
Running from March 2017 to March 2019, the project in the context of developing global frameworks for sustainable development aims to create a multi-regional network for knowledge exchange in Sustainability and Environmental Management between program countries (Norway, Netherlands and Portugal), partner countries (India, Nepal and Uganda) and partner country regions of Asia and Africa through both physical and electronic methods. With Higher Education Institutions (HEI) as the focus, CapSEM strives to augment sustainability and environmental management capacity at HEIs in Uganda, India and Nepal in order to build knowledge and practical experience for sustainable poverty reduction, development and innovation. Towards this end, CapSEM assists the partner HEIs in the development of curriculum and training materials suitable to the recognized national needs.
As part of project, the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies is undertaking capacity building in the fields of industrial sustainability, circular economy, life cycle analysis, material flow analysis and input-output analysis. The Centre is also in the process of developing a methodology and framework for life cycle analysis of different industrial clusters focusing initially on plastic recycling. Partnerships with industry and industrial associations to analyse their processes and provide recommendations based on the Circular Economy Framework is also being undertaken as part of the CapSEM project.
