The Early Literacy Initiative is a university-based initiative that performs a nodal function in terms of domain building by coordinating a range of systematic and well considered initiatives in early literacy in different parts of the country. The span of the project is three years.

Brief: The need for sustained work on Early Literacy is a national imperative. Therefore, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), with the support of Sir Ratan Tata Trust Mumbai, has proposed to bring focused attention on this critical area by launching the Early Literacy Initiative (ELI). The challenge for early literacy needs to be addressed at many levels – government, civil society, and academia, and other stakeholders.
