A talk on Using rigorous evidence synthesis for better policy and practice

Venue: Library Conference Hall, TISS main campus

The Centre for Health Policy, Planning and Management, School of Health Systems Studies (SHSS), TISS, Mumbai, invites you to a talk titled: Using rigorous evidence synthesis for better policy and practice

Speaker: Dr. Howard White, CEO, Campbell Collaboration

Venue: Library Conference Hall, TISS main campus

Date: December 7, 2017

Time: 3-5 PM

Despite decades of programmes to improve lives, there is generally little evidence of which programmes are effective. Most policy and practice is based on intuitions, prejudice and out-of-date knowledge. Starting with medicine, recent years have seen a rise in evidence-based policy and practice. Systematic reviews, which summarize rigorous evidence of effects, are at the core of this evidence revolution.

This revolution is led by two organizations, which publish high quality reviews: Cochrane for health and Campbell for other sectors.

This talk will demonstrate why reviews need to be used to inform policy and practice: because they are high quality evidence and reviews should be used rather than single studies. The principles for conducting reviews will be outlined with examples from the Campbell Library.
