Dimapur, November 8 (MExN): A programme on the awareness of prisoners rights and the functioning of Legal Services Authority was organised for the under trial inmates of Sub Jail/District Jail by the Dimapur District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Criminal Justice Fellowship Program, TISS.
DDLSA panel advocates Sentimenla, Zuchembeni spoke on the topics mentioned while Criminal Justice Fellow Nikita Engheepi chaired the programme. The inmates were made aware that the state still guarantees their basic human rights even though their freedom maybe limited.
The programme was attended by panel advocates – L Luzukhu and Dzuvinuo along with Roshni Nair and Rashmmi who were visiting from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai representing the Criminal Justice Fellowship Program which is under the Centre for Criminology and Justice, TISS. The program aims to encourage Criminal Justice Fellows to work on new areas where there is a dearth of trained human service professionals or demonstrate the scope and potential of working on critical issues. In Nagaland, Criminal Justice Fellow, Nikita Engheepi is working on the issue of under trial prisoners.
The programme ended successfully with the inmates having an interactive round where they raised questions and cleared their doubts. The organizers in a press release have thanked the Jailer, Asst Jailer, and the staff of the Sub/District Jail for their cooperation.
