Walkathon to Commemorate World TB Day 2019
Each year, March 24 is commemorated as World Tuberculosis (TB) Day to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease.
The theme of the World TB Day this year is – “It’s Time”.
India and especially Mumbai is grappling with TB and Multi Drug Resistant TB and “It’s time” for each one of us to do our bit and take the pledge to:
• Stop tuberculosis in our lifetime • Protect yourself, our family, our co-workers and neighbours from TB • Inspire people to follow cough etiquette • Make our city , state and country TB free.
On the occasion of World TB Day 2019, Saksham Jan Urja, Tata Power, the District TB Centre, Govandi, and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) organised a Walkathon. The Walkathon started at M East Ward office and finished at TISS where the participants took the pledge.
