Mumbai, 06 July 2024: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) recently hosted a momentous event centered on the theme "Revitalising Higher Education through Indian Knowledge Systems." Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, a distinguished development expert, public policy analyst, leadership trainer, and author, graced the event as the chief guest. The gathering was attended by esteemed figures including Prof. Manoj Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of TISS; Prof. Shankar Das, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chairperson of CECRS; Prof. Madhushree Sekhar, Chairperson of the Office of International Affairs; Ms. Vaishali Kohle, Associate Dean of the Office of Student Affairs; and Mr. Souvik Mondal, Convenor and Member Secretary of CECSR.

The event commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp and the unveiling of Swami Vivekananda's portrait, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and wisdom at CECSR, TISS Mumbai. Prof. Manoj Tiwari articulated the relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) across sciences and social sciences, emphasizing their profound impact on contemporary education. Prof. Shankar Das echoed this sentiment, highlighting IKS's holistic approach and its integration across diverse fields of knowledge, promoting a deep interconnectedness. He stressed the principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' - the world is one family- illustrating how IKS embodies this inclusive vision.

The pinnacle of the event was Dr. R. Balasubramaniam’s inspiring lecture, where he expounded on how ancient Indian educational philosophies and practices can rejuvenate modern higher education. He articulated, "Revitalising our higher education through Indian Knowledge Systems is not merely an academic exercise; it is a journey to reconnect with our roots and reimagine our future. By integrating ancient wisdom with contemporary learning, we can create a holistic, inclusive, and transformative education system."

This event not only celebrated the richness of India's intellectual heritage but also ignited a renewed commitment to integrating these timeless principles into the fabric of contemporary education, ensuring a more enlightened and inclusive future.
