Dr ir Abhishek Banerjee

Dr. ir. Abhishek Banerjee is a GIS engineer, researcher, consultant and currently an Assistant Professor in the field of Geoinformatics and its applications, Jamsetji Tata School of Disaster Studies, TISS, Mumbai. His research areas include technical as well as applicative aspects of GIS, Remote Sensing, etc.

The fields in which he has worked are general and advanced modeling, hydrological studies, technology development, statistical analysis, biomass assesment, drought modelling and innovating new techniques. Other regions include LULC assesment, change detection, vulnerability & risk mapping, natural resource mapping, geostatistical models and field based methods through Geoinformatics techniques. He has also worked with geophysical technique, groundwater assesment, weightage analysis, modeling and natural resource management (water and land). 

Dr. Banerjee's broadly classified research interests are:


  • Resource management of natural resources.
  • HydroInformatics: GIS andRemote Sensing
  • Hydrology and water resource management based on GIS and remote sensing modeling
  • Climate and environmental modeling, hydrological modelling (including flood and drought extremity)
  • Biomass assessment of forests and bushes with microwave and/or optical images
  • Intelligent River Basin Management
  • Developing GIS technology (either using GIS/image processing softwares, programming, etc.)
  • Development of 3-D GIS and 3-D modeling.
  • Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, Machine Learning (specially in the field if GIS and remote sensing.)
  • Interdisciplinary research in GIS & Disaster management
  • Geospatial Big Data
