Short Profile
Dr. Devakumar Jacob has a doctorate in ‘Public Applied History’ with over a decade of service at the prestigious Loyola College, Chennai. He obtained his LLB and LLM from Mumbai University. He has been engaged in teaching socio-legal history and social science research at premier educational institutions for the last twenty years. Presently, he teaches as a faculty member at the School of Law, Rights, and Constitutional Governance, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
Constitutional Law and Administrative Law, Labour Law, Corporate Law, Social Justice and Social Legislation, Contemporary Social History, Legal History, Caste and Gender, Subaltern History, Migration and Forced Migration, State and Society, Social Welfare Administration, Human Rights Education, International Humanitarian Law, and Research Methodology have been his areas of academic interest. He has mentored M.Phil. Students and PhD scholars. He is a member of many academic and professional bodies.
His research paper titled ‘Caste Clashes and Dalit Rights Violation’ has been adjudicated as the best paper by the Indian History Congress. He has authored books on ‘Women and Human Rights’, ‘Access to the House of God: History, Law, and Governance', and ‘Marginalised History’, and published twenty research articles on various social themes. He has also presented papers, actively participated in many international and national workshops and seminars, and served as a resource person in FDP and training programmes. He closely works with judicial and quasi-judicial institutions to make meaningful legal interventions. He conducted a public hearing in three villages in Dharashive district and mapped the unmet legal needs of the marginalised people.

Guided four PhDs and twelve M.Phil.s in various research themes. MA. and LLM dissertations, forty-five students successfully completed them under his guidance in various social-legal thematic areas.
