M.A. (TISS), Ph.D. (Aurangabad)
Dr. H. Beck is a Professor at Tata Institute Of Social Sciences. He has been working at TISS for more than two decades. Moreover, he was also a Dean of the School of Social Work. He graduated as a student of Political Sciences (Hons.) from St. Xavier’s college Ranchi, Jharkhand and did M.A. in social Work with specialization of Urban and Rural community Development (URCD) from TISS. He has completed Ph. D; in Sociology in Maharashtra. Having completed school education, he has spent more than ten years in the religious order, where he studied philosophy and went through several stages of training in the religious order called SJ (Society of Jesus).
He has worked on various projects and organizations of national and international stature e.g. Aga Khan Housing Board For India, Catholic Relief Service (CRS) Etc.
Besides teaching, Dr. Beck is also engaged in wide variety of academic activities like, training, research on areas like electoral process and participation of people in governance, Displacement, Rehabilitation and Resettlements, Study of Manual Scavengers, Budget outcome studies in infrastructure and Development sectors etc. Moreover he has also played important roles in the Disaster relieve and Mitigation endeavors from time to time.
CETRD (Centre for Environment Technology and Resource Development) It was a field action project Initiated by the Department (URCD) supported by UGC (University Grants Commission) New Delhi, India and many other National and International Organizations & Government of Maharashtra supported the project.

Sponsored by Reliance Industries Nagothane, Maharashtra. He has been conducting several research studies with objectives of preparing satisfactory indices of the Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) of various Industries at various points of time spread over 2010 to 2015. As a Project director systematically streamlined the entire research initiatives in term of coordination with the companies, recruitment of staff, induction of research staff in data collection, facilitation and supervision of the staff including furnishing reports for all the industries particularly located at in the states of Jharkand, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh in India.
CARITAS INDIA: It had commissioned a study to measure the “Contribution of Caritas India towards Social Development of People in India”. The jurisdiction of the project was spread over the entire country (India) practically.
“THE EDUCATIONAL STATUS OF SCHEDULED TRIBES: ATTAINMENT AND CHALLENGES IN THE STATE OF CHHATTISGARH” was sponsored by ICSSR (Indian Council of Social Science Research New Delhi). It is an ongoing project that will again lead to some policy update with a view strengthening the quality education of the marginalized sections of Indian population.
Prof. Beck is very happy giving time on project on behalf of TISS and producing reports that are extremely important and relevant for both the Sponsors as well the Clientele systems, particularly for policy updates, formulation, developing action plans, re-modification of project implementation and management strategies.
Research supervision (M.A. / M. Phil/. Ph.D.): He has been guiding several students in their field work and more particularly on their M.A; TISS research fellowships, M. Phil; and Ph. D Degree at TISS.
