Started career as Probation Officer in the State Childrens’ Home and thereafter as Social Worker with a Children’s Home. Joined the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, as faculty in the year 2000 and is currently Assistant Professor at TISS, Mumbai. Involved in teaching courses related to vulnerable children, social work skills, etc. Also engaged with supervision of fieldwork students and research related work. Participated in faculty exchange/training programmes in USA, Finland, and Switzerland. Was part of core team to design and conduct a training programme related to social work with children at Yangon, Myanmar
Former Member of the Juvenile Justice Board (Mumbai Suburban) for seven years. As a Social Work Member of the Board, have worked closely with the Magistrate on cases pertaining to children in conflict with law and rehabilitation. Have been part of Maharashtra Govt. appointed and High Court appointed Committees for areas pertaining to juvenile justice. Participant at Round Table consultations organized by Supreme Court Commitee on Juvenile Justice and High Court Committee on Juvenile Justice
Have been a resource person at several State and National Training Programmes at places such as the National Judicial Academy, other State Judicial Academy, National Police Academy, law universities, govt child welfare depts., NGOs, UNICEF, etc., on various topics related to the juvenile justice system, child rights, child vulnerability, and child protection. Have taken sessions with judicial members, police officers, officials from govt. child welfare depts.,social workers, etc.
Led a small team at TISS towards preparation and submission of the Model Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on Missing Children as directed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The current National SOP is based on the TISS SOP
Have been involved in collaborative work with Organisations such as UNICEF, Save the Children, and SOS Children's Villages of India in the arena of child rights and child protection
Have developed several modules, manuals, and courses related to child rights, child protection, and juvenile justice
